Apparel manufacture in Italy
One of the most lucrative apparel manufacturers in Italy are those of outerwear. In 2021, revenue from outerwear manufacture far outweighed all other sectors, reaching a whopping 119 million euros. In comparison, the next-highest revenue was generated by manufacturers of accessories, which amounted to 5.6 billion euros.Amongst other articles of fashion, Italy is well-known for its high-quality leather products, such as jackets, bags, shoes and wallets. In 2021, annual revenue from the manufacture of leather and fur clothing and accessories reached nearly 17 billion euros, while leather footwear generated around 12.2 billion euros.
Luxury brands
Many of the most iconic brands in the world come from Italy, such as Gucci, Prada, and Versace, to name a few. Although, in 1999, Gucci was bought by the French group Kering, which also owns brands such as Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga. Guccio Gucci founded the company in Florence in 1921. Now, Gucci is the most lucrative of all Kering's brands, generating nearly 10 billion euros of revenue in the financial year 2021.The apparel market in Italy remains as one of the most influential and dynamic on a global scale. It continues to dominate both the high-end and mid-range segments of the market, with brands like Gucci and Prada providing luxurious garments, and OVS and Calzedonia catering to the everyday consumer.
