Every year, shoppers across the globe take advantage of discount days to get the best deals on their purchases. These events have long been crucial for small and large retailers to drive in-store sales, but as e-commerce grows in popularity, promotions and special offers are rapidly moving into the digital space. Whether it’s the Hot Sale, El Buen Fin, CyberDays, Cyber Monday, or Black Friday, Latin America does not fall short in online sales events. Even though not all dates are celebrated simultaneously across the region, some have become household names for online shopping in most Latin American countries.
With high spending on several online shopping events in Latin America, consumers in the region keep showing a preference for e-commerce and competitive prices where they can get the most value for their money.
Cyber Monday’s popularity
Black Friday and Cyber Monday typically signal the start of the holiday shopping frenzy worldwide. The 2024 edition of Cyber Monday showed positive results in many Latin American countries, reflecting the importance of online shopping in the region. The e-commerce sales revenue on Cyber Monday surpassed the 1.4 billion Brazilian reals in Brazil in 2024, representing an increase of 20 percent with respect to the previous year. A similar tendency can be seen in Chile, where the 2024 edition of Cyber Monday was celebrated from September 30 to October 2. The revenue during Cyber Monday in Chile reached a historic high, surpassing the previous record of 433 million U.S. dollars set in 2021. The popularity of this shopping event in many Latin American countries is rising, but it is not the only e-commerce event that has caught the attention of the Latin American shoppers.Hot Sale: the mid-year shopping spree
On top of holiday season promotions, several Latin American markets have also incorporated mid-year sales days into their e-commerce calendars. In 2014, the Mexican Association of Online Sales and the Argentine Chamber of Electronic Commerce launched the Hot Sale, a discount event aimed at boosting e-commerce, and the bet has paid off. In 2024, Mexico’s Hot Sale generated about 34.5 billion Mexican pesos in sales and attracted over 12 million buyers. Similarly, Argentina’s campaign also proved successful, with e-commerce revenues of 346 billion Argentine pesos that year.
