BigCommerce - statistics & facts
A small but solid market presence
Although being far from competitors like Shopify, WooCommerce, or Salesforce, BigCommerce features the ranking of the most used e-commerce platforms in Europe. In 2023, roughly one in ten e-commerce professionals used it, while a worldwide survey showed BigCommerce in the top five of e-commerce platforms merchants migrated to. A recent three-month analysis of the merchants migrating to BigCommerce indicated that the SaaS vendor tends to be the first option for many. Most retailers switched from their own online custom shopping cart to BigCommerce, which provides them with efficient built-in solutions. In turn, Shopify is the competitor BigCommerce loses most customers to, as Shopify’s offering is quite different and relies on a much higher number of integrations and third-party applications.Online retail on BigCommerce
About 42,000 e-commerce websites run on BigCommerce software worldwide and roughly one in four have a very small sale volume with less than ten products sold. A significant number of online stores undergo the product categories of homeware and fashion, leaving food or consumer electronics at much lower positions in the ranking. A glance at seasonal trends reveals that BigCommerce stores performed incredibly well during the latest edition of Cyber Week. The gross merchandise volume (GMV) had a 26 percent increase compared to the previous year, registering a peak on Thanksgiving Day.The Cyber Week results slightly outdid even Shopify’s growth and left optimist prospects for BigCommerce merchants or the ones planning to migrate to the e-commerce platform in the future.
